New York: Liverpool debut new adidas away kit against Wrexham
New Kit Unveiling and Design
Liverpool has introduced its new adidas away kit for the 2026/27 season, a design that draws inspiration from the club’s history. The strip was unveiled a day before its on-pitch debut and is now available for purchase through the club’s online store, the LFC Store app, and official LFC stores both in the UK and internationally.
The new away shirt features a crisp white base, accented with strawberry red and grey detailing. This colour combination is intended to evoke a sense of familiarity, referencing some of the Reds’ past away kits while offering a contemporary look.

A notable element of the design is the return of the heritage Liver Bird crest, positioned alongside the adidas Trefoil logo on the chest. This pairing serves as a nod to a significant period for both Liverpool and adidas, celebrating a partnership that has produced various shirt designs over the years. The kit’s retro influences are further evident in its V-neck collar and matching sleeve cuffs, which also incorporate coordinated red and grey accents. The signature adidas Three Stripes run down the shoulders, contributing to a clean and timeless aesthetic.

Beyond the visible design elements, the kit includes subtle details woven into the fabric. A bespoke engineered pattern, inspired by historic Anfield match tickets and season tickets, is incorporated. This design draws from vintage ticket stubs and archive graphics, aiming to connect with generations of supporters.
On-Pitch Debut and Match Result
The new adidas away kit made its first appearance on the pitch during Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Wrexham in New York. The match took place at Yankee Stadium. Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory in this fixture, with Rio Ngumoha scoring the goal late in the second half.

This win marked Liverpool’s second victory in their USA tour. The match provided the first opportunity for the team to wear the new strip in a competitive setting, showcasing its design in action. The kit’s debut was part of a broader launch that included various promotional activities.
The new 2026/27 adidas away kit is described as combining timeless design with modern performance innovation. Its inspiration from away strips of the 1980s aims to honour a classic chapter in Liverpool’s history while providing a wearable design for the modern era.

The club’s new head coach, Andoni Iraola, led the team in this fixture. His tenure began with a 4-2 triumph against Sunderland at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee. The match against Wrexham represented his subsequent test as head coach.
Milos Kerkez, Liverpool’s anticipated first-choice left-back, has previously played under Iraola at Bournemouth before his move to Merseyside. Kerkez expressed his delight regarding Iraola’s appointment, noting the coach’s positive impact on his development during their two years together. He also highlighted Iraola’s distinct football philosophy, characterising it as an attacking, high-energy approach.
Kerkez described Iraola’s style as involving high intensity, with a willingness to play one-on-one across the pitch and to maintain a high press. He also mentioned the physical demands of Iraola’s training, stating that players require good condition for the coach’s methods. The new kit is intended to be worn with red shorts and white socks.

The launch event for the kit included lighting up the Empire State Building in New York in club colours. An event was also held beside the East River in Brooklyn, offering views of the Manhattan skyline. Former Liverpool players Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler were present at the Brooklyn event. Fowler commented on the new shirt, expressing a desire to have worn it to score a winning goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Additionally, an NYC taxi was covered in white and red, displaying the club’s badge and the adidas Trefoil logo, as part of the kit’s promotion.
The new kit, which draws inspiration from away strips worn between 1985 and 1988, pays tribute to a successful period in Liverpool’s history. This era brought silverware and memorable moments, serving as a source of inspiration for the design. The kit is available to buy now.
